Choose the zone of your accommodation in Rome

When looking for accommodation in a city you have never been to, one of the most important things is the right choice of the zone in the city where the lodging is located. It all depends on your budget and the main reason you are visiting Rome. For one or two days stay, it is reccomended to stay near the Rome Termini main station, but it is well you read something about the zone in order not to have unexpected surprises. Around the Rome Termini it is possible to find very affordable family-managed accommodations to multi-stars luxury hotels. Lodging in the old Rome quarters can be an exciting experience, but your budget should be little higher. As alternative, there are some very nice residential neighborhoods, not exactly in the old city but very close to it and well linked by metro and buses: San Giovanni, Re di Roma, Flaminio, Prati, Gianicolo, Parioli, Appio - Tuscolano, Ostiense, Garbatella, Piramide, Testaccio are the main examples.

Pensions or pensioni, guesthouse or affittacamere, bed and breakfast, youth hostel or ostello, budget hotel or hotel economico... Rome offers a large variety of cheap accommodations, in alternative to multi-stars-hotels. You will hardly find a private double rooms over the hundred euros per night, within these categories, except for late reservations in special dates as eastern, 25th of april, 1st of may, 2nd of june, 31st october, 8th december, christmas and new year's night. Most of times, rates are between E.25 and E.35 per person per night.

The second airport in the eternal city, is located 15 kilometers east of Rome. It services mostly low cost companies, linking Rome to all major cities in Europe: Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Asmterdam, Oslo, Istanbul, as well as many italian cities, both in the continent, the peninsula and in the islands (Sicily and Sardinia).

Nevertheless the town of Ciampino has a train station with very frequent trains to Rome Termini, it is better to reach the airport by shuttle bus, as the train station is far and hardly reachable from the airport. Some companies offers shuttle bus service from central Rome to the Ciampino airport, all day and night running, at very budget rates.
Would your flight depart so early in the morning, or arrive too late by night, it is well to consider lodging near the airport. Ciampino town is a suburban area of Rome, where you may find low rates accommodations. The place is really well linked with the city center, with trains running every 15 minutes to Rome Termini, from early morning to late night. Duration of travel is around 15 minutes.
