Choose your accommodation in central Rome

Pensions or pensioni, guesthouse or affittacamere, bed and breakfast, youth hostel or ostello, budget hotel or hotel economico... Rome offers a large variety of cheap accommodations, in alternative to multi-stars-hotels. You will hardly find a private double rooms over the hundred euros per night, within these categories, except for late reservations in special dates as eastern, 25th of april, 1st of may, 2nd of june, 31st october, 8th december, christmas and new year's night. Most of times, rates are between E.25 and E.35 per person per night.

An italian bed and breakfast is the most common cheap accommodation in Italy. It can be located very close to owner's home, or in the same house of innkeeper, in separated part of owner's home, with costumized rooms for guests. Italian law and municipal offices guarantees that this kind of lodging offers a good quality services and clean rooms, with bath (hot showers) and heating, but notice that you rent a room inside somebodies house and not into a hotel. Most b&b has a friendly ambiance, and gives you both keys of the room and the appartment during your whole stay (there's no reception as in hotels).

A pension or pensione, is an small, simple and budget hotel placed into one or two floors inside a building. Pensions are placed mainly around the train stations.

Affittacamere are guesthouses which rent private rooms without any side-service like 24hrs reception or catering. Nevertheless, some affittacamere includes free breakfast and self-catering facilities.

Public big youth hostels (Ostello) are hard to find in central Rome, as they are mostly placed not exactly in downtown Rome. In the other hand, small private hostels offers similar services, but cleansing are not always a must, so read carefully comments of previous guests in reliable sources (like tripadvisor) before you make your choice.
